Funke Akindele Education – Funke was born on August 24, 1977, in Lagos, Nigeria. Her parents are medical doctors and retired school principals. She is a Yoruba woman. She has three siblings, two girls and a boy. She went to Grace Children’s School in Gbagada. She completed an Ordinary National Diploma in Mass Communication (OND) from the former Polytechnic of Ogun State, now Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (Mapoly). She also obtained a law degree from the university of Lagos.

Funke Akindele Bello (born August 24, 1977) is a Nigerian film actress, actress-in-residence, film director, film producer and political leader. She is better known by her stage name, Funke Akindele or Jenifa. I Need to Know was a sitcom that aired from 1998 to 2002. Akindele was nominated for an Africa Movie Academy Award in 2009 for best actress in a leading role. The role of Jenifa catapulted Akindele to fame. She reprised her role in the 2015 TV series adaptation of Jenifa, entitled Jenifa’s Diary. The series was nominated for the African Magic Viewers’ Choice Award for Comedy Actress of the Year in 2016 and 2017. Jenifa went on to win the award again in 2020 and again in 2022. This marks the fifth time she has won the best actress in a comedy award. Funke has won six AMVCA awards, making her the actress with the most awards. She is also the second director to have grossed over N1 billion at the Nigerian box office.

She was appointed as the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) 2022 running mate for Lagos State’s governorship election scheduled to take place in 2023 by the PDP’s candidate for the governorship of Lagos State (Abdul-Azeez Ojideide Adediriyan).

Career

Akindele’s career took off after he joined the cast of the popular UNFPA(United Nations Population Fund)-funded sitcom, “I Need to Know”, which aired from 1998-2002. Funke Akindele played Bisi, Bisi is a secondary school student who is inquisitive but highly intelligent. Controversy erupted in January 2018 when it was announced that “Funke Akindele” will make her Hollywood debut in “Avengers: Infinity War” as she is listed as a cast member on IMDb. According to mainstream Nigerian media outlets, Jenifa was cast as the guard in Infinity War, according to IMDb. However, a few weeks later, her name was changed to that of another Nigerian actress, Genevieve “Genevieve” Nnaji. Later, it was revealed that the upload by the actress, Funke “Akindele” Akindele, was hacked. In February 2018, Dr. Saraki, the President of the Senate and the National Assembly, reportedly urged Marvel Studios to include Akindele in “Infinity War”.

According to an interview conducted in July 2016, Akindele said piracy was one of the reasons she was doing less work in the Yoruba movie industry at that time. Akindele stars as the titular character in the popular TV series, Jenifa’s Diary, co-starring, Falz, Ajisola, and Juliana Olayode, as well as Aderounmu Adejumoke. The show is a spin-off of the popular Jenifa movie series. Akindele made her film debut in 2018 in the comedy film “Moms at War” alongside Omoni Oboli. Akindele launched her new web series “Aiyetoro Town” in July 2019, a follow-up to her popular TV series “Jenifa’s Diary”. Former CEO of scene one film production.
