Dj Cuppy Education – Florence Otedola professionally known as DJ Cuppy born on the 11th of November, 1992 in Lagos Nigeria. She is also a Disk Jockey (DJ), a music producer, a singer, a businesswoman and a humanitarian.
She went to Grange School in Ikeja. When she was 13 years old, she attended a boarding school in the United Kingdom (UK) where she completed her Secondary School education and obtained her General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) and Certificate A-Level Certificate.
DJ Cuppy completed her Bachelor’s degree in Business & Economics from King’s College, London in 2014. In 2015, she completed her Master’s degree in the Music Business at New York City. As of 2022, DJ Cuppy is pursuing a Master’s degree in African Studies from Oxford University in England.
Career
Cuppy started DJing with second hand equipment in 2008, and by 2014 she was the live DJ at the Mtv Africa Music Awards (MAMAs) in Durban, as well as at the London edition of the magazine (Tatler) and the art ball (Christie’s) in London, and the financial times luxury summit (Luxury Summit) in Mexico City, among other places.
In 2015, she launched the music management & content production company (RED VELVET MIGRATION GROUP) with the release of her first music compilatiy mix “House Of Cuppy”.
DJ Cuppy, who is known for mixing commercial hits with new-age remixes to appeal to a wide range of audiences, has been nominated multiple times for awards, including Best Female DJ at the ELOY Awards in 2014. In March 2015, she announced that she would be the official DJ of the 2015 Oil Barons Charity event in Dubai, making her the first African artist to perform there. She is currently an intern with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation. In April 2014, she was appointed as Nigeria’s tourism ambassador by the country’s minister of tourism, culture and national orientation Edem Duke.
Also in May 2015, she was featured in Forbes Woman Africa, following her appearance on the Guardian Life cover as a “new generation African woman” in January 2014.
Following her ‘Cuppy takes Africa’ DJ tour, which aired on the channel Fox Life Africa in the form of an 8-part documentary series, DJ Cuppy has toured various cities in Africa, including Senegal, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda and South Africa. In 2018, as part of her ‘Send 10 to the University’ initiative, she took to social media to announce the launch of the project, which will see the entry into the University of Lagos (Unilag) of Nigerian singer-songwriter Akeem Owollabi.
In 2017, she released ‘Green Light’ in the genre she calls ‘Neo-Afrobeats’, featuring Nigerian singer-producer Tekno, and ‘Vibes’ with Sarkodie. DJ Cuppy plans to release an album in the near future. She is currently serving as the Pepsi ambassador in Lagos.
