Burna boy’s, Bose Ogulu mother was a language translator and his father Samuel Ogulu owned a welding business. Burna Boy is often referred to as the “King of afrofusion”. He is considered to be one of the most prominent African musicians of his generation. Burna Boy has been instrumental in spreading the contagious rhythms of afrobeats around the world.
In 2012, he released “Like to Party”, the lead single off his debut studio album, L.I.F.E. (2013). The following year, he signed to Atlantic Records in the US (and its subsidiary Warner Music Group in the rest of the world) for the release of “Outside” (2018).
In 2019, he was nominated for BET’s “Best International Act” and Apple Music’s “Up Next” award. He then released his 4th studio album, “African Giant”, which was nominated for “Album of the Year” at the All Africa Music Awards and “Best World Music Album” at Grammy’s 62nd Annual Music Awards. In 2020, he was named “Africa’s Most Wanted” at the Ghana Music Awards and “Africa’s #1” at the African Music Awards. In August 2020, he released his 5th studio album “Twice as Tall” which was nominated for ‘Best World Music Album’ at Grammy’s 63rd Annual Music Awards. The following year, he won BET’s Best International Act again.
Love, Damini was Burna Boy’s sixth studio album released in 2022. It peaked at number one on the Billboard 200, becoming the highest debut album of an African artist on the chart. Love, Damini also peaked at number one in France, number one in the Netherlands, and number one in the United Kingdom. In October, he was awarded the “Order of the Federal Republic” plaque for his work in music. In 2023, he was ranked number 197 on Rolling Stone’s list of “200 Greatest Singers of All Time.” He was named the “Fourth Best International Act” at the “BET Awards” in 2023. He won the “Last Last” award at the “Headies Afrobeats” for “Single of the Year” and “Best International Act”.
