Born on October 9, 1994, the Super Falcons striker is a Nigerian national football player. She is originally from the state of Lagos (Ikorodu) in Nigeria.

The striker, who is 1.73 meters (5.8 feet) tall, was born in a Muslim household and said her parents were initially against her playing football.

In her own words, “I have always been interested in sports. I used to be an athlete before I started playing football with the boys in my class”.

Asiata Oshoala of the Super Falcons is widely considered to be one of the finest female football players in Africa and among the best of all time. She is one of Nigeria’s most famous female football players.

Oshoala made her professional debut in 2009 when she was just 14 years old and has since gone on to win a record five African Women’s Footballer’s Player of the Year awards.

Career

Oshoala signed for Liverpool in England’s Women’s Super League on 23 January 2015. The club’s manager Matt Beard described her as “one of the world’s best young players”. Despite speculation linking her to a number of clubs, she expressed her delight at joining Liverpool. She became the first African-born player to play in the country’s top women’s league.

Despite a knee injury which ruled her out for two months in 2015, Oshoala managed to score three goals in nine games as the defending champions finished seventh in the league. Oshoala opened her account with a goal in a 2-1 win over Birmingham City on 1st April. She scored her second goal in the 2–1 victory over Manchester City in the 10th minute of the first half of the second half. She then scored the third goal in a 3-1 win over Arsenal on the 12 July.

In January 2016, it was reported by the Liverpool Echo that a transfer offer from Arsenal had triggered Oshoala’s release clause and that she was in talks with Arsenal about personal terms.

Facts About Asisat Oshoala

Oshoala is the first African player to have won six CAF Women’s Player of the Year awards. She has won the award in four consecutive years (2014-16, 2017-19, 2022-2023).

Oshoala scored at three FIFA Women’s World Cups.

She was the inaugural African Player to play in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

She was a top scorer in Spanish Primera Division 2021-2022.

She became the first African to be named BBC Women’s Footballer of the year (2015).

She was top scorer in 2017 Chinese Women’s Super League.

She is the inaugural African to play in FA’s Women’s Super league (2015).
