Nigerian Doctor: Douye Nomayo Emerges Overall Best in United Kingdom University

Dr. Nomayo is a Nigerian medical doctor who completed her medical degree with honours from the Department of Health & Psychology at City University, London, United Kingdom.

During her MSc in Health Policy, Nomayo was ranked as the best overall student at the university.

She worked at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa in Bayelsa state for nine years before moving to the UK.

Douye Nomayo, a Nigerian medical doctor, has been named the top overall student at the City University of London’s School of Health & Psychology Sciences.

According to The Nation, Nomayo completed her MSc in Health Policy with distinction.

She also received the school’s award for “Best Overall Performance.” She revealed this in a statement in which she explained why she decided to pursue a second degree in “Health Policy,” according to Vanguard.

“During my time working at the hospital, I have seen the pain and suffering that people go through to get healthcare because of high costs or lack of access.

“I realised that healthcare professionals need to be more involved in policy-making in order to get issues in the health sector to the top of the political agenda in a timely manner. I embarked on a journey to understand the economics and politics of healthcare policy-making and learned how to design, assess and improve on existing policies.

“A number of countries have implemented health system reforms in the past, and their lessons can be applied to create solutions that are cost-effective and acceptable to healthcare providers and the people of Nigeria.”
