FG begins payment of ASUU’s withheld salaries

Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) withheld salaries have started to be paid by the federal government.
Some ASUU members were reported to have confirmed that the withheld salaries were paid on Monday, February.
On October 20, 2023, President Tinubu authorized the release of four months’ salary arrears that ASUU had withheld.
Under the aegis of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the federal government restored salaries that had previously been withheld from university academics.
According to the same report, several academic circles in Abuja corroborated this claim on Monday, 19th of February.
Head of ASUU at Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA), Prof. Gbolahan Bolarin confirmed that payments have started.
President Tinubu approved the release of 4 of the 8 months’ salary arrears for the university staff withheld by ASUU in October 2023.
Buhari’s administration imposed a ‘no work, no pay’ policy to withhold wages from university unions that went on strike in 2022 for eight months.
